“Frugality for the Win”
It’s a mindset and attitude that, looking back, I grew up with.
My parents were frugal while they were raising my three brothers and myself, and as time went by, they were able to grow their savings and overall net worth, all while still enjoying life and making memories by spending money on the things that were most important to them!
And now the frugal philosophies that my parents lived by, and still continue to live by, have been passed onto me.
Whether I like it or not, or my wife likes it or not, that’s just how my brain is wired now.
For me and my family going forward, that means not only limiting nights out to eat and prioritizing how we spend our money, but also brainstorming creative ways to build other income streams.
And in today’s technology centered world, there’s so many options out there!
Anything that has a chance to increase our bottom line is fair game!
What Frugality for the Win is all about?
I truly believe that everyone deserves to go through life as happy as they can be.
And as much as people don’t want to admit it, money can have a significant influence on how you live your life.
It’s not always the easiest or most fun topic to discuss, especially when you’re struggling and aren’t where you want to be financially.
The reality of it though is that the sooner you recognize that you want to make a change the better.
There are many personal finance enthusiasts that tell you how to save money or make extra money, which is obviously extremely helpful and is the main focus of Frugality for the Win as well.
But I also want to dig a little deeper, and encourage you to look at your motivation behind improving your finances and aspirations of what you want your life to look like.
For me, giving my wife and kids a fun-filled life full of exciting memories is what motivates me to want to make and save more money.
Looking to the future can be scary, but I believe it’s completely necessary to recognize your goals and prompt you to take action!
Whatever your dream future looks like, finding new ways to make money and save money will most certainly help!
So the big question to ask yourself is…
Why do I want more money and what will I do with it??
I don’t want to try to tell you how to use your money, but I personally like to envision how money made or saved will ultimately be used.
Developing goals and objectives for your money will not only make it easier to organize your finances, but it will motivate you and give you something to look forward to!
Build up enough cash back to put over 20% down on your dream house to reduce your monthly payment and avoid private mortgage insurance.
Cash out your earnings from your online side hustles to pay for a trip to that spot across the world you’ve always wanted to vacation to!
Even something as simple as buying a new pair of jeans or getting a coffee from your favorite spot every day before work can be goals that you can reach through budgeting and frugal living.
My ultimate goal is to become comfortable financially while giving my family a life full of adventurous vacations and a home life filled with play time and laughs.
Some of my smaller goals that will help me with my ultimate goal include limiting nights out to eat, finding cheap and free things to do around town for entertainment, and never using my credit card for more purchases than I can afford.
Whatever your desires are, extra money will make it easier to bring your dreams into reality!
And as long as you decide to live frugally in some aspects of life, hopefully you can choose a few areas to be a little more frivolous with your money!
